Biography

Alokananda Dasgupta is an acclaimed Indian music composer celebrated for her emotionally layered and genre-defying scores across film and streaming platforms. Born in Kolkata, India, to poet and filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta, she studied English Literature at St. Xavier's College and Calcutta University before moving to York University, Toronto, to earn her Bachelor of Music with Honours in Theory and Composition.

She began her career assisting composer Amit Trivedi on Udaan (2010) and Aisha (2010), before emerging as a leading composer with her scores for Shala (2011) and Fandry (2013). Her work on Trapped (2016) and AK vs AK (2020) further showcased her evolving style.

Dasgupta achieved national acclaim with Netflix's Sacred Games (2018-2019), winning the Filmfare OTT Award for Best Background Score in 2020. She continued to deliver powerful compositions for Leila (2019), Breathe (2020), The Rapist (2021), and Jubilee (2023), winning her second Filmfare OTT Award in 2024.

In 2022, she was recognized as part of the BAFTA Breakthrough India cohort, solidifying her reputation as a composer redefining the soundscape of modern Indian storytelling. Critics frequently cite her ability to seamlessly weave classical influences with contemporary cinematic narratives.

Her forthcoming projects include Khauff (Amazon Prime Video) and Akka (Netflix), set for release in 2025.
