Biography

Gareth Van Den Bogaerde was born on July 19, 1933 in Hendon, Middlesex, England, UK. He is an actor and producer, known for Monster: A Portrait of Stalin in Blood (1992), The Honourable Rebel (2015) and Arena (1975). He has been married to Lucilla Dilke since 1970. They have two children. He was previously married to Jennifer Bruges.

Younger brother of Dirk Bogarde and Elizabeth Goodings.

Father from his first marriage of Gareth Jr (born 1958), Brock Van Den Bogaerde (born 1959) & Rupert (born 1961), and from his second marriage of Ulric Van Den Bogaerde (born 1970) & Alice (born 1973).

He is the grandfather of musician and singer-songwriter Birdy, whose father is Gareth's son, the author Rupert Van Den Bogaerde (born 1961).

[on the relationship with his brother, Dirk Bogarde] We had a love/hate relationship. I loved, he hated. I don't say this flippantly, it is the truth. I did love him, but he hated firstly himself and, secondly, what he had done, which was to nurture resentment of me. I think he had hurt himself because of that and he hated it. He hated himself.
