- Mathieu Vié was born in Paris in 1986. He always had interest for cinema and photography. After a short career in the music business industry as musician (played guitar piano and drums mainly) he started to work as camera assistant then, since 2007, as cinematographer.
He founded the ASA - Assemblee de Sauvegarde de l'Argentique (Film Saving Assembly) because he's very concerned about the disappearing of the film format in favor of digital format.
His work is inspired by Wally Pfister, Philippe Rousselot, Darius Wolski, Januz Kaminski (among others) who gives him a huge inspiration.

- I really believe that, if you want to give emotion, through music or photography, you must feel a real sadness or a real happiness. If you want to GIVE emotion, you must FEEL emotion. You cannot make people feel something if you don't feel something yourself ! A picture or a melody will say what's inside your heart, not inside your brain... There is thousand tales to be told.
- Digital cameras remind me the Polaroïd... We all knew that it was less qualitative than classic film, but we could have the result immediately.
- It is difficult not to fall in love with a beautiful girl you are filming when you see her in your camera's eyepiece, where there is only the shutter's mirror between you and her.
- Tear after tear, until they dry, or until you die.
- I've been told that, when you shoot on film, the choice of the camera does not affect the quality of the images you create. But I respectfully disagree. Of course film cameras does not have a direct effect on the reaction of light on your emulsion through your lens, but the way you feel with your camera in your hands does affect the quality of your frames, specially in handhelds configurations. If we compare to something everybody can understand, if you have a slippery screwdriver in your hands, it will affect the way you work with. Simple. I never feel better than with an XL2 on my shoulder. It just make sense. Clear eyepiece, perfect balance, sweet sound.
