Biography

Blending her classical training and her orchestration work in Tokyo, with a passion for sound design and electronic textures, Helena's distinctive style and unique approach can be heard across her film, TV and commercial projects.

After graduating from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with First Class Honours in Composition, Helena moved to Tokyo to work as an Orchestrator for renowned film composer Yoshihiro Ike.

Since returning to Australia, she has composed the music for acclaimed productions including Blind Ambition, which won the Audience Award for Best Feature Documentary at Tribeca Film Festival in 2021, the Emmy Award-winning children's animation Bluey, the Walkley Documentary Award-winning series Revelation, and all 7 seasons of AACTA Award-winning Australian Survivor.

Helena's composing achievements include Bluey: The Album debuting in 2021 at #3 on the US iTunes Charts and making history as the first ever children's album to top the Australian ARIA Charts. Helena and the Bluey music team have been nominated for an ARIA Award for Best Children's Album in 2021. Helena won Best Original Score at the Florence Film Awards 2020 for her music for Revelation, and received an APRA Screen Music Award nomination for Best Music in a TV Series for her work on Australian Survivor.

In 2021, productions that will receive their world premiere with a score composed by Helena Czajka include feature documentary Blind Ambition (Third Man Films, Madman Entertainment), the feature documentary The Department (Shark Island Productions, SBS), the drama series The Tailings for SBS, and the feature documentary Off Country (Good Thing Productions).

Also premiering in 2021 is Unseen Skies (In Films, Participant Media), which is receiving attention for Helena's work manipulating NASA-recorded sounds from space to create a distinctive and experimental score.

Previous work includes the feature film Beast (Third Man Films, Madman Entertainment) that received its premiere at Toronto International Film Festival, the TV series The Queen and Zak Grieve (Foxtel's Crime and Investigation Channel, In Films), Making Muriel (ABC, In Films), and Look Me In The Eye (SBS, EndemolShine).

Helena is a member of The Australian Guild of Screen Composers (AGSC) and holds an AACTA Professional Membership.
