  • Julius Cotter is an Irish-English actor known for his roles as the ominous drug lord Diosdado in Prime Video’s Silent Cargo (2022), as Sandro in the Netflix series Gangs of Galicia (2024), and the shrewd Scottish banker Hugh Fleming in the Spanish noir series Truth (2018), also on Prime Video. Further screen credits include the American fantasy drama series, Warrior Nun (2020), in which he plays the Archbishop of Canterbury; Unauthorized Living (2018), the Spanish crime series as Mr. Anderson, both on Netflix; and the international heist-action film The Vault (2021), directed by Jaume Balagueró, alongside Freddie Highmore.

    He trained in the Meisner technique in Barcelona with Javier Galitó-Cava (certified by the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre, New York) and further honed his craft through masterclasses with Rachael Adler, a student of Sanford Meisner.

    He was born Julius Laurence George Cotter in Dublin, Ireland, and is of Norse-Gaelic heritage, but has lived most of his life between England and Spain. He was drawn to the arts from an early age participating in school theatre productions, painting, and writing poetry. Cotter was educated at Allhallows College, Rousdon, and later earned a BA Honours degree in Fine Art and Film Theory from the University of East London. He worked as gallery assistant at the Michael Parkin Fine Art gallery in Motcomb street, Belgravia, London, cataloguing and hanging shows, and later as an assistant director for various Production Companies in Spain. He then went on to work in front of the camera, and began acting professionally in 2014.

    In his short but intense career, he has worked with directors such as Neil Jordan, Stacie Passon, Juanjo Giménez, Jaume Balagueró, Rodrigo Cortés, and Lucie Borleteau, and with actors including Robert De Niro, Liam Neeson, Awkwafina and Emma Roberts.

    He speaks fluent Spanish alongside his native English, works professionally in both languages, and has basic-level French.
