Galo Andrés Semblantes Valdez, born in Quito, is an Ecuadorian filmmaker with a strong academic background and extensive experience in the film industry. He studied Film and Video at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito and earned a Master of Fine Arts in Filmmaking from the New York Film Academy. His career includes key roles in productions like "Mono con Gallinas" (third assistant director), "Dance of Insanity" (gaffer), and "American Dreams" (director of photography). He also directed the documentary "The Legend of Tayos," which premiered in 2021 and became the second highest-grossing Ecuadorian film of that year.
During his university years, he interned at the Cero Latitud Ibero-American Film Festival, gaining valuable experience in festival organization. Later, Semblantes served as a producer for the Quito International Film Festival (FICQ) in 2017, 2018, and 2019, showcasing his ability to manage large-scale events. Since 2022, he has been the creator and director of the "Festival Internacional de Cine Friki", focusing on fantasy films.
