Biography

Mark A.J. Nazal is an Emmy Award-winning visual effects supervisor, filmmaker, and creative executive known for his work on high-profile and genre-defining series including Gotham, Lucifer, and Westworld. His career spans both studio and independent productions across film, television, and publishing.

In addition to his work in visual effects, he has directed and produced a range of short films and music videos recognized by international festivals and creative platforms. He is the co-founder and Chief Creative of Diwata Komiks, an imprint under SurrealArts Productions, which focuses on diverse, creator-owned storytelling across comics and other media.

Nazal currently plays a leading role at multiple creative companies, contributing to cross-platform storytelling efforts and creative development. His work has been featured at events such as San Diego Comic-Con, and he serves on both the Visual Effects Society's Texas Board and the Television Academy's Peer Group Executive Committee.

Grew up and went to school in 4 different countries in 3 continents.

Started experimenting with visual effects in high school using a 350k pixel Acer digital camera and earlier releases of Adobe Photoshop and ImageReady, often animating effects frame by frame.
