Lloyd Schoonmaker

Lloyd Schoonmaker was raised in Seattle, Washington. Lloyd sang baritone for the Seattle Civic Opera Company when he was a young man. A graduate of Highline High School in Burien, Washington, Schoonmaker studied at Washington State University before moving to Oxnard, California in 1963. In the early 1970's Lloyd recorded the song "Fresno Blues," which peaked at #90 on the country music charts. Schoonmaker first met longtime friend Morton Downey Jr. in 1975 when the two of them were writing patriotic songs for a U.S. Bicentennial record. In 1976 Lloyd co-wrote with Downey Jr. the song "Lonely Man" about Richard Nixon and went on to pen all the songs for the 1989 album "Morton Downey Jr. Sings" under the pseudonym David Lloyd. Moreover, Schoonmaker worked as an algebra teacher at Haydock Junior High School in Oxnard as well as assisted Downey Jr. in perpetuating the notorious hoax about Downey Jr. being attacked by Neo-Nazi skinheads in the men's bathroom at the San Francisco International Airport.
