Awards

The jury unanimously awarded the Short Film "The Recess", made by Navid Nikkhah Azad, the Grand Farcume Prize + , which aims to distinguish works that stand out in the promotion, dissemination and affirmation of values and principles of dignity and human rights and in the fight against social and cultural inequalities.

The jury of "Signes de Nuit" awarded "The Recess" with the Edward Snowden Award for the following reason: "For highlighting the limits of freedoms that women in Iran suffer by framing the story of Sahar Khodayari within an all too ordinary recess period in school, the Edward Snowden Award for Short Film is given to "The Recess" by Navid Nikkhah Azad."

La giuria ha anche ritenuto doveroso assegnare una menzione speciale al cortometraggio The Recess di Navid Nikkhah Azad, con la seguente MOTIVAZIONE: "un film in grado di restituire - con la poetica essenzialità caratteristica di tanta cinematografia Iraniana - un volto, un vissuto, e in un certo senso un risarcimento, a Sahar Khodayari, la "Blue Girl" che nel 2019, alla prospettiva di scontare sei mesi di carcere solo per essere andata allo stadio a tifare per la sua squadra del cuore, rispose dandosi fuoco. Sahar Khodayari morì pochi giorni dopo e divenne un simbolo dell'oppressione perpetrata dalla Repubblica Islamica dell'Iran nei confronti delle donne. Una martire alla quale quest'opera rende un commosso omaggio".
