Navid Nikkhah Azad is an Iranian film director, film editor and cinema journalist based in the Netherlands. He is a member of the Dutch Directors Guild (DDG).
His short films have been screened at over 300 international festivals, earning more than 50 nominations and awards. One of his standout short film, The Recess (2020), brings the tragic story of the self-immolated football fan Sahar Khodayari to life. It has received over 160 international selections and 30 awards, solidifying its place among the top-rated shorts in the Iranian cinema.
As a film journalist, he is a member of the Association of Dutch Film Critics (KNF), the official Dutch branch of the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI).
