Biography

Václav Vetvicka was born on January 13, 1938 in Prague, Czechoslovakia [now Czech Republic]. He died on July 30, 2026 in Luza, Chrudim, Czech Republic.

From 1963 he worked at the Botanical Garden of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in Pruhonice, where he was the director of the park in 1984–1985 and again in 1990–1992. After the merger with the Botanical Institute of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, he worked there until 1992.

Prepared 33 exhibitions at the Pruhonice Castle and at the same time managed the Experimental and Acclimatization Garden in Cernolice from 1976 to 1992.

In 1992 he became the director of the Botanical Garden of Charles University in Na Slupi in Prague, which he managed for fifteen years. During his tenure, he reconstructed and expanded the garden, had new tropical and subtropical greenhouses built, and prepared more than a hundred exhibitions.
