Biography

Ozie Cargile is a highly acclaimed composer and pianist based in Los Angeles, with a passion for raising the consciousness of humanity through multimedia projects enabled and enhanced by music composition, performance, and education. Ozie graduated from the University of Michigan School of Music in 2003 with a Bachelor of Music Composition and Principle in Piano Performance, where he studied with Susan Botti and Bright Sheng. He also completed the Hollywood Music Workshop in Baden, Austria, in 2015, where he studied orchestration and arranging with Conrad Pope and Nan Schwartz. In 2019, Ozie was selected as one of eight fellows for the prestigious Sundance Film Music and Sound Design Lab, directed by Peter Golub in collaboration with Skywalker Sound and BMI, where he worked on cues with film composers Marco Beltrami and James Newton Howard.

Ozie has a rich history of composing music for orchestras, with his magnum opus, Creation of the Universe, being recorded by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. His choral orchestral work, Song for Humanity, was premiered by the Boulder Symphony, performed alongside the 150-voice Boulder Chorale as a precursor to Beethoven's 9th Symphony. Ozie's music has been recognized by many world-class orchestras, making him a sought-after composer in the classical music industry.

Ozie is also well-known for his work composing scores for same-gender-loving themed series and films. He has worked extensively with directors Quincy and Deondray Gossfield and has composed scores for numerous projects, including the Telly Award-winning web series The Chadwick Journals, Smoke Lilies and Jade, which premiered at Outfest, and Flames, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. His work has been well-received by the LGBTQ+ community, and he continues to be a valuable voice in the industry.

Ozie's passion for education is evident through his more than 15 years of experience as a professional piano and composition instructor. He has compiled his teaching experience into an 8-hour video series called the Quicklessons Piano Course including a 352-page course book, which has been accessed by thousands of students around the world. His private and group piano sessions focus on piano performance, reading and writing music, playing by ear, and music appreciation across various genres including classical, jazz, gospel, rock, and R&B.
