Linda Martell was born on June 4, 1941 in Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina, USA. She is a writer and producer, known for Made for Love (2021), Bad Case of the Country Blues: The Linda Martell Story (2024) and Hee Haw (1969).

Is the most commercially successful Black woman in country music to date.

She was the first black female solo country artist to play the Grand Ole Opry, making 11 appearances on the Opry stage between 1969 and 1975.

She was featured in Beyoncé's 2024 'Cowboy Carter' album.

In 1969, Martell's debut single "Color Him Father" reached No. 22 on Billboard's Country Songs chart. In 1970, she released her debut album, "Color Me Country".

With a sister and a cousin, she formed a Southern girl group, the Anglos (later the Angelos), who recorded several singles for small labels.
