Father was Paul Porter. Broadway stage Manager, Director, Performer, Writer, Lyricist.

As a child in New York, appeared on the radio program Quiz Kids for several months. Also on that panel was Robert Easton, who later became an actor, linguist, and dialect coach. The Chicago edition of the radio show was a separate show, with different panelists. Porter was invited to appear on that show, where a fellow panelist named Skip Homeir also went on to become an actor.

Served as acting Executive Director of Actor' Equity.

As a child actor (ages 10 and 12) appeared in two Broadway plays, Tomorrow the World (500 Performances at the Ethel Barrymore Theater) and My Sister Eileen (865 Performances at the Ritz, Martin Beck, Biltmore and Broadway Theaters).
