Richard Horwood in Red by James Hogan (2017)

Biography

Richard Horwood

Mini bio

  • Richard has been an entrepreneurial innovator in British media for some 20 years, after careers in law and investment banking. Chief Executive of Blink TV, a TV production and distribution company specializing in live music content and on stage screen visuals, he is also Chairman of The Local Digital Company, a joint venture with local press groups developing interactive native advertising videos for brands and local advertisers.

He is best known for his resolutely commercial approach to local television, which started in the early nineties with his founding and running the Mirror Group's cable network of affiliated local TV stations opting out of a national programming spine. As well as a successful broadcaster, the business included a substantial TV production company, a premium rate telephone service provider, and an airtime sales house.

Trivia

  • Returning to British local television in 2010, Richard formed the Channel 6 Consortium, one of the main players in the Government's local TV initiative, and led its bid for the London Public Service Broadcaster TV franchise.
  • Richard then bought technology company Vio from BT and Scitex in 2001, and AdSEND from the Associated Press in America in 2005, turning them into a world market leader in print advertising online delivery solutions. Living in America for two years, he was instrumental in merging competing European and American technology standards for print advertising processes.
