Dave Shaver is a Christian filmmaker intent on spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ through the media of film. While he is an award nominated cinematographer, he is deeply interested in all aspects of the creative process from concept to finished product.

--

Dave was born, raised, and lives in Colorado. He has over 15 years of experience in the Information Technology field doing network administration for a small rural hospital.

"Mister Dave", as he is sometimes called, enjoys computer work, hiking, driving, bike riding, and spending time with his wife Julie and daughter Adra.

--

In 2004, several opportunities arose in the church to make movies. Two short films were produced; "PJ Dalton: Accidental Detective", and "Rewind: The Whole Story". These films were extremely poor quality and quite silly, but the audience enjoyed them. It was the creation of these two films that deeply rooted the seed of Dave's film making passion.

Because of the positive response to these films the church pastor asked if an Easter movie could be made. When completed, this 30 minute film covered the arrest, trial, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus as told through the eyes of one of the Roman soldiers who witnessed the events. Thus, the film was titled, "Through the Eyes of a Soldier". It was a Biblical period piece with a small budget and a very small cast. While not a very high quality film, it was very well received, further cementing Dave's desire to film.

Though much planning and effort was put forth in the years that followed, few opportunities for film production presented themselves. During this time, only a couple short films even reached production.

In May of 2010, Dave attended the Rocky Mountain Christian Filmmakers Camp in Norwood, Colorado. This camp introduces filmmakers of various skill levels to the many aspects involved in the preproduction and production of films. One important objective of the camp is to shoot a complete movie during the course of the week. When offered the opportunity to submit a screenplay for consideration, Dave jumped at the chance and wrote a ten page script to bring along. After a tie vote and a discussion between the instructor Norton Rodriguez, and executive producer Ken Lawrence, "John's Miracle" was chosen and shot that week.

Because of his past experience and study in film making, Dave was given co-producer credit as he was an integral part of the production planning and organization of the shoot.

Shortly after film camp, Zack Lawrence contacted Dave to be the Director of Photography of his film "Ragged Edge", which was the other script that tied in the vote at film camp. Dave gladly accepted and over the course of a three day shoot in October of 2010, Zack Lawrence, Cesar Marquez, Victoria Marquez, and Ken Lawrence (among others) produced the film. It was released to DVD in February of 2011.

"Ragged Edge" was nominated for Best Cinematography, at the 2011 Gideon Film Festival.

After the release of "Ragged Edge" the post production of "John's Miracle" was resumed. Visual effects on several of the shots could not be properly created during production due to budget and time constraints. Using Blender and Adobe After Effects, Dave created a fabric simulation to accomplish the FX shots.

--

Dave continues to work on his film making career and is always actively looking for film projects to which he can contribute his wide array of skills.
