The UNLV Foundation in Las Vegas honored his dissertation, Friendship in Arthur Miller, as the Dissertation of the Year. (1993)

Recognized as Outstanding Educator by the Clark County (Nevada) Commission, Educator of the Year by the Las Vegas Latin Chamber of Commerce, and was given the Champion of Education Award by the National Latin Business Association. (2007)

He was one of the lead vocalists (as Kiko Campo) in the 1980s Christian band "911", which included his sisters, Cathi Campo (as Cathi Demman) and Cristina Stretz, and his brother-in-law Eric Stretz. 911 released their only album "Time Will Tell" in 1986.

Brother of Cathi Campo, Rosemary Cari Campo (now Cari Leary; married Patrick James Leary on 11/25/1976), and Cristina Maria Campo (now Cristina Stretz; married Eric Kennedy Stretz on 10/23/1982).

Taught English at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (1989-1998) and chaired the theater department at Dove College.

(1998-2008) Worked at the College of Southern Nevada (CSN): as an English professor (1998), Dean of Arts and Letters (2005), Director of Academic Partnerships, Interim Vice President of Academic Affairs, Chief Academic Officer and Provost. He also helped pioneer the college's "Virtual College," called CSN Online Campus.

He holds a Ph.D. in English (drama emphasis; 1989-1993), a Master of Arts (English; 1981-1986 graduating Cum Laude) and a Bachelor of Arts (theater; 1976-1981), all from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

(October 28, 2010) Inaugurated as the 8th president of Regent University.

(August 1, 2010) Became the first Hispanic president of Regent University (Virginia Beach, VA) and the eighth president to lead the school.
