Biography

Adrean Mangiardi

Biography

  • Adrean started his film education with the Film and Animation program at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. In 2003, he was first recognized for his film, Paper Airplane, which was an experimental/documentary of his life as a deaf individual and the impact he had on his family. In 2005, he won the Deaf Rochester Film Festival Student Honorable Mention Award for Paper Airplane. In that same year, Larry Hott of Hott Productions viewed Paper Airplane at the festival and offered him an opportunity to produce another short film for Hott's PBS affiliated production, which was released in 2007. Adrean thus creatively crafted yet another award-winning film, Equilibrium, based on his experience with bilateral cochlear implants. In 2006, he won the School of Film and Animation Department Chair's Award at RIT for his senior thesis film, The Calabrian's Feast, where he originally shot in a village in Southern Italy. In 2009, he received his MFA emphasizing in Film/Video/New Media in The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and created an experimental film, Deprivation/Stimulation, which won the Best Experimental film in the Toronto International Deaf Film & Arts Festival and was also nominated for Best Experimental film at the Deaffest (UK) 2009 Gala Awards. Since 2003, he has owned and operated Mangiardi Films, a full-service production company that has provided services to a variety of client types from local to International, among the most notable being CSD, Google, Microsoft, and D-PAN.
