Biography

  • Yilmaz Vurucu born in Canada in 1975. After attending Temple University's film program (Philadelphia, U.S.A.) he moved back to Canada and began working in the Canadian TV industry as a producer/director. He honed his skills by directing commercials and music videos in his free time. Since 2009, he's been focusing on writing and producing his own projects. A passionate storyteller, he thrives in creating alluring and repetitive visual narratives that capture the imagination of viewers. He also enjoys experimenting with various technologies and utilizing them to advance his narrative constructions. Yilmaz's films often merge reality with fantasy, offering viewers a glimpse into the mindset of his characters. The lonely world of his characters are quite vivid however, and this is generally revealed through time-lapse photography, stylistic lighting, overbearing and dwarfing settings, and a questioning of linear time through editing techniques. He lives in Vienna/Austria.

In 2010 he wrote, directed, produced and edited Dr. Zack, a 14 minute short film shot in Canada, on high definition video. The film was screened at numerous international film festivals.

In 2011, he completed the post production of Borders, a 30 minute short film, shot in Vienna/Austria.

In 2012, Yilmaz directed his first feature documentary, The Sea In Me. The documentary has been screened at numerous festivals throughout Europe. Following the widespread acclaim the film has received, work is underway to develop a sequel.

In 2013, he wrote and directed Gematria, a dystopian Sci-Fi short, taking place in a future world ruled by corporations and conglomerates.

His latest project, Sweet Candy, was completed in 2017.
