- Al is a Midwest "farm boy" who went to college late in life and fell in love with theatre/film work. He graduated as an education major and has acted in many student and independent films, some on a very professional level that have shown at major international film festivals. He is an extremely talented pool player/trick shot artist, can do some dialect work, ride a motorcycle well (large or small). He is a father and grandfather. At 57 years of age, he was voted homecoming king at his college in 2009. He narrated the Rocky Horror Show on stage at his campus in 2010 having been cast without a call-back due to his excellent narration abilities. He lives in Wahpeton ND.

- Al's dog, a yellow lab, is named Lois Odden-Jayawardene. When Al and his friend Supun went to get a dog at the local shelter they wanted a male yellow lab they could name Brian (in honor of Family Guy). But as fate would have it they fell in love with a female instead and named her Lois (still Family Guy theme). The hyphenated last name is for Al Odden and Supun Jayawardene (a close college friend from Sri Lanka).
