- Marla is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and graduated from Hofstra University. She later moved to the Netherlands after being awarded a Fulbright Scholarship.
- Before committing to acting full-time, Marla was a prolific freelance journalist. She covered arts, culture, and food for major publications, including the New York Post and the Daily Herald.
- In addition to her dialect work, Marla is an active student of the German language.
