In the film My Dog Skip, Frankie Muniz's love interest, played by Caitlin Wachs, is named after Rivers Cassedy's great-aunt and namesake, Rivers Applewhite. Rivers Applewhite was the school teacher of Willie Morris, the Mississippian author who wrote the book My Dog Skip.
