Mini bio

  • Sir Leonard Blavatnik is a global businessman and prominent philanthropist who has spent over 30 years transforming businesses into international market leaders while advancing science, education, and culture through charitable giving.

In 1986, Len founded Access Industries, a privately held company headquartered in New York with investments spanning strategic equity, media and entertainment, real estate, and biotechnology, building a global portfolio worth over $35 billion to date.

Through Access’ investments in the entertainment sector, Len has served as an Executive Producer on a slate of critically acclaimed films, including the double-Oscar winning The Zone of Interest, the Oscar and Bafta-winning Conclave, Civil War and Materialists, amongst others. He is also a co-producer of the hit West End and Broadway show The Picture of Dorian Gray starring Sarah Snook.

The Blavatnik Family Foundation, exclusively self-funded, has contributed more than $1.3 billion to 250 institutions worldwide over the past decade, supporting scientific innovation, world-class culture, and future leaders. Len was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2017 for his service to philanthropy and was named Chevalier of the French Legion d'Honneur in 2013 for his support of education.

Born in Odesa, Ukraine, he emigrated to the US with his family in 1978, later earning a Master's in Computer Science from Columbia University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He is a dual U.S. and UK citizen.
