Rachel Leigh's love of scary movies began when she watched Jaws with her dad at six years old. She began her film career in Texas in 2009, writing and producing multiple short films, two feature films and a web-series, mostly in the horror genre, before making the leap to directing in 2016, with her first film, "Imperceptible."

After losing both parents at a very young age, Rachel's films tend to focus on loneliness, grief, and trauma. They have a feminine point of view and tend to blend surrealism with hyper-realism and contain elements of horror. Her visual language comes from her poetry background as well as her love of studying film. She has directed ten short films, including "3:14" which has been programmed at multiple festivals such as Emerging Filmmakers Project, Venice Shorts, and NY International Women's Fest. "The Crane Maiden/Friday Night Dinner", written by Jordyn Katz, was recently selected by New Filmmakers LA. Her latest film, "The Bonsai", a story about an agoraphobic hoarder taking care of her verbally abusive mother, will soon be ready for the festival circuit.

Along with her producing partner, Rachel has two feature-length horror films in development, "Nightmare Circus" and "Cannabelle", as well as a cinema-verité narrative drama called "Socks", which takes place in real time and tells the story of the last hour and a half of a dying woman's life.

Rachel has a BA in Creative Writing with a minor in Film Studies from the University of Houston and an MFA in Film Directing from Chapman University.
