- They were part of The X Factor (UK) in 2010, they were in the "bootcamp" stage when they were told they would not make it in the 'boys' category. One Direction was formed on July 23, 2010. Judges Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh felt they were too talented to be sent home. As a group, they made it to the 3rd finalist spot and have enjoyed complete fame ever since.

- Member Liam Payne had auditioned for The X Factor UK (2004) in 2008, making it to the judges houses stage before being sent home. Had he progressed to the live shows that year, Simon Cowell would've been his mentor then too.
