Biography

Kelly was born in Stockton, California and grew up in Oroville, California. On a lark, during his Junior year in high school he participated in the open audition for his school's production of Mousetrap, by Agatha Christie. To his surprise he won a lead part, that of Detective Seargent Trotter. Other High School productions followed, including Pillow Talk, Guys and Dolls, and the Odd Couple.

He graduated from Butte College in 1985 with a degree in Telecommunications (Radio Television Broadcasting). Next in his sights was film school. He attended film school at San Francisco State, and settled in Cal-State Northridge in the San Fernando Valley. There he graduated with a degree in screenwriting as well as taking extension courses at UCLA.

Kelly is an accomplished writer. He has written for radio, television and film.

Kelly resides in Rio Rancho, New Mexico with his wife Suzanne and 2 children, Zachary and Jessica.

Blazing hot summer days and cold rainy winters. Oak and olive and fruit trees. That is the gold country of far Northern California. And that is where Kelly was born and raised. High School in a small town consisted of theater, super 8 films and 1 inch industrial video. College was film school. An A.S. in Radio TV Film from Butte College. California State University, Northridge is where he received his B.A. in Screenwriting and Directing. UCLA for screenwriting seminars and Sacramento State University is where Kelly finished his academic career with interdisciplinary post graduate studies.

It was in New Mexico where Kelly's acting career began in earnest. A member of the Screen Actors Guild, he trained at the Albuquerque Actors Studio with Lora Cunningham, as well as with Eb Lottimer and his Elements of Sacred Space. With Jo Edna Boldin it was Audition Intensive . With Marie Khol it was film and TV acting 101. And with Kathryn Brink it was her seminar on the audition process.

Most recently Kelly can be seen in short films on the festival circuit. Retirement Planning and Silent April have been seen at The Chelsea Film Festival, The Hollywood Independent Film Festival, and The Santa Fe Indepedent Film Festival.

Born in Stockton and raised in far Northern California, Kelly enjoyed acting and film making (on 1 inch industrial video tape and super 8) in junior and senior high school. He attended Butte College where he received an A.S. in Radio TV Film and then film school first at San Francisco State University, and later transferred to California State University, Northridge in Los Angeles and UCLA where he received his B.A. in screenwriting and directing. After film school, Kelly attended graduate school at Sacramento State University for 2 years where he majored in Graduate Interdisciplinary Studies.

Kelly's film and theater acting career ignited in New Mexico. Highlights include attending The Albuquerque Actor's Studio with Lora Cunningham, the Elements of Sacred Space with Eb Lottimer, Audition Intensive with Jo Edna Boldin, Film 101 with Marie Khol, and Audition Techniques with Kathy Brink.

Kelly is a member of the Screen Actor's Guild, and is represented by Presley Talent.
