Sebastian Sommer was born in Syracuse, New York. He moved to New York City at an early age. He grew up on the upper east side of New York City. He graduated from Baruch College Campus High School. He attended New York University Tisch School Of The Arts. His short films have screened at the Guggenheim Museum, TriBeCa Film Festival, and Anthology Film Archives. He directed the feature length movie Dragon (2024/II).

Vice magazine once referred to Sommer as a visionary.

Attended NYU film but dropped out his third year to work on a feature.

His love of movies began at the age of nine when he watched <a class="ipc-md-link ipc-md-link--entity" href="/title/tt0181689/?ref_=nmtrv_trv">Minority Report (2002)</a>.
