Klaus Schwab was born on March 30, 1938 in Ravensburg, Württemberg, Nazi Germany [now Baden-Württemberg, Germany].

His thesis in mechanical engineering (1965, ETH Zurich) bore the title: "Der längerfristige Exportkredit als betriebswirtschaftliches Problem des Maschinenbaues (untersucht am Beispiel der Bundesrepublik Deutschland)" (The longer term export credit as business problem of mechanical engineering, using the example of the Federal Republic of Germany). Was awarded a "Dr. sc. techn." for it.
