- Hamish Bennett (Te Arawa, Patuharakeke, Kai Tahu) is an Aotearoa New Zealand based director and screenwriter. In 2023, he co-wrote and co-directed his second feature film, Uproar, which celebrated its world premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival and most recently won the award for Best Direction of a Feature Film at the 2024 Australian Directors' Guild Awards. In 2019, Hamish wrote and directed his debut feature film, Bellbird, which premiered in competition at the Sydney International Film Festival.
Hamish recently stepped into the commercial directing world, directing the 2025 Stone & Wood Brewery 'Afternoon Delight' ad campaign for Monster Children Creative.
Beyond his creative work, Hamish is an experienced teacher and script consultant. He conducts writing workshops and provides support to various organisations, including Script to Screen NZ and the New Zealand Film Commission.
Hamish is represented by Cameron's Management (AUS).
