Biography

Dallas James Liu grew up in the San Gabriel Valley in Los Angeles, California. Long before acting became his primary focus, he developed a deep background in martial arts. He began practicing Japanese Shotokan and competing in the North American Sport Karate Association from a young age, starting around the age of five and continuing his international competitions until he was thirteen. His martial arts background ultimately served as a gateway into the entertainment industry, as his manager originally discovered him through karate videos uploaded to YouTube.

Liu made his professional acting debut playing a young Jin Kazama in the film Tekken (2009), after being referred to the audition by one of his martial arts teachers. Over the next several years, he built up his resume with various television and film appearances, including Mortal Kombat: Legacy (2011), Underdog Kids (2015), and a recurring role as Carter in Nickelodeon's Legendary Dudas (2016).

He gained wider recognition for playing Shuji Ishii-Peters, the brother of Maya Erskine's character, in the acclaimed Hulu comedy series PEN15 (2019). Following that success, he appeared on the big screen as Ruiwen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021), played Taylor King in the Snapchat drama series Players (2022), and starred as Mikey in the Disney+ movie The Slumber Party (2023). His career reached a new level of global prominence when he was cast as Prince Zuko in Netflix's live-action television adaptation Avatar: The Last Airbender (2024).
