Biography

  • Nick Fitzhugh is a director, showrunner, cinematographer and writer.

Nick began his career as a student at Brown University (BFA '02) by starting Glimpse, a nonprofit multimedia platform for young people living and studying abroad to share stories about personal cultural experiences abroad. Seven years later the company was acquired by the National Geographic Society. He continued to run what became National Geographic Glimpse for three years. In 2010, Nick started the production company redfitz, and turned his full-time attention to directing, producing, writing and shooting documentaries, features and documentary series, branded content and commercial documentary shorts. His first film, Soccer City (2011), the documentary series and featurette about life and soccer in the largest and most notorious township in South Africa during the first ever World Cup to be held in Africa, was picked up by the Nat Geo Channel, ESPN Classic, and Netflix and is also available on iTunes, Vimeo On Demand, and Amazon Prime.

Being distributed in the U.S. on public television networks by Netflix and American Public Television, Nick's second film, Starboard Light (2015), is a 60-minute documentary feature spanning five generations that explores the question of whether a family makes a house or whether a house makes family.

In 2015, Nick created and was showrunner on the documentary series, Conflict, a documentary series that goes behind the lens with some the world's best conflict photographers. It is being distributed by Netflix and was featured on The Atlantic and CNN's Amanpour and received two Vimeo Staff Picks.
