Biography

Nick Stanchev is a Bulgarian director, actor and screenwriter. The grandson of the popular Bulgarian opera singer and tenor Kolyu Abadzhimarinov. In 2015 was released his debut feature film as a director and screenwriter, "The Girl from the Vile Land". Selected in the top 7 Bulgarian proposals for a foreign language film for the Academy Oscars. In 2016, he filmed his short film "Luxury Death" in England, which was selected at several festivals, including a nomination for best short film at the "Barcelona Planet Film Fest", as well as among the 10 best short Bulgarian films at the "Bulgarian Film Academy Awards". In 2016, he staged the first-ever fetish production of its kind in Bulgaria, "The Lust Fairy", which was selected for the Askeer Awards in the "Innovative Dramaturgy" category (2017).

In 2019, his second feature film, "Tango in the Tunnel", was released. It was nominated for Best Drama at the "Los Angeles Motion Picture Festival". Stanchev also plays one of the main roles in the film. The same year he began teaching film acting at the "New Actors Studio" school. In 2024, the school under Stanchev's leadership won the "Best Vocational Training School" award from the "Eagle Education agency".

In 2022, his film "Digital Asylum" won over 10 awards from international film festivals. At the end of the same year, his short picture "Am I not my brothers' Keeper?" was released. One of the first films about the war between Russia and Ukraine. It won 13 awards from world festivals in 2023.

Stanchev's third full-length feature film was released in 2025. He is a director and screenwriter. "Children of Bendida" is an adventure-fantasy. The film tells the story of a mythical island inhabited only by children with special abilities under the protection of the goddess Bendida. The film is a rare genre for Bulgarian cinematography.
