Biography

Richard Waters is a Dublin, Ireland born director and editor. The filmmaker made his feature film directorial debut with 2013 romcom The O’Briens, which had the honour of bringing joy to audiences at festivals worldwide, including the prestigious Newport Beach Film Festival 2013, where it won the Outstanding Achievement in Filmmaking award, and being awarded both the Best Ensemble and Audience Award for Best Film at the Idyllwild Film Festival 2014.

With frequent collaborators Alison Scarff and Michael McCudden, Richard co-founded the production company Weird Pretty Pictures, producing the mystery-thriller Sodium Party, and following The O'Briens, went on to direct his second feature film, In A Stranger’s House. Off the back of that film's success, Weird Pretty Pictures produced the Ireland-set horror Bring Out The Fear, which premiered at the prestigious Frightfest in London's Leicester Square in 2021 before going on to a successful festival and critical run, and being released across the world. In 2023, Richard’s 4th feature film, Advent premiered at the Newport Beach Film Festival and won the Jury Award at the Richard Harris International Film Festival. This was followed by Distort in 2025 and its sequel Distort 2: The Dead Among The Trees in 2026. A slate of genre-based feature films are expected over 2027 and 2028.

Aside from directing and editing for TV, Richard is a keen dog-lover, dabbles in soundtrack-esque music, has developed a love of running, and enjoys trying to scare himself with whatever horror films he can find.
