Karlijn Milder is a Dutch film director and one half of the directing duo the Milder Sisters, together with her sister Lotte Milder. Combining their expertise in acting and cinematography, they focus on bringing untold, often female-driven stories to life. Their passion lies in fiction, which led them to make their first international period piece, Fanny. The film premiered as the opening film of the Oscar-qualifying Busan International Short Film Festival and featured an international cast and crew, with filming taking place in the Netherlands, Hungary, and Belgium. The sisters are developing their debut feature, Masquerade (working title), with support from the Netherlands Film Fund, expanding on the narrative introduced in Fanny. With the same team, they are also developing another short period piece about the world’s first female race car driver. Emotionally rich and visually refined, their films are crafted to connect with a broad audience.
As a cinematographer, Karlijn Milder works across fiction, documentary, music videos, and commercial projects. Her work has been shown at festivals and on platforms including NPO, Netflix, EYE Filmmuseum, and Pinewood Studios in London.
