Biography

Helmut Marko was born on April 27, 1943 in Graz, Austria. He is an actor, known for Formula 1 (1950), Road to 55 (2015) and Road to Racing (2010).

He won the 1971 24 Hours Le Mans.

During the 1972 French Grand Prix in Clermont-Ferrand, a stone kicked up by Ronnie Peterson pierced Marko helmet visor, permanently blinding his left eye and ending his racing career.

Ex-Formula One racing driver, who raced for: Ecurie Bonnier (1971 (GP Not Qualified)), BRM (1971 (4 GPs)-1972 (5 GP)), He started 9 Grands Prix.

Teammates in Formula One were: Joakim Bonnier, Jo Siffert, Howden Ganley, Peter Gethin, George Eaton and John Cannon.

Helmut Marko finished in 4th place, driving a BRM, in the first-ever Brazilian Grand Prix, a non-championship Formula 1 race held at the Interlagos circuit, in São Paulo, on March 30, 1972. The event was a test, which joined the official Formula 1 calendar the following year in 1973.
