Biography

Ian Penman is an experienced film industry lawyer, with several Executive Production credits to add to his portfolio.

Ian qualified as a UK solicitor in 1996 with DLA Piper, before leaving to set up New Media Law in Soho in 2002. Initial clients included Magnus Fiennes and Freefonix (UK TV animation, BBC), before moving into feature films such as Hardy Bucks, and Frank or Francis. Ian works regularly with a host of UK and US based independent producers, including most recently Perry Trevers of Studio POW, on the feature film Midas Man, released 2025. Ian and his team at New Media Law carried out all of the production legals for the movie. Working closely with Perry and with the late (and sorely missed) William Dietrich, a long time client of the firm.

Ian is co-Exec producing the "Cancelled" reality TV series, as well as the Marquee - Birthplace of Rock, feature length documentary. Ian has been working full time as an entertainment industry lawyer since 1994. 31 years and counting!
