Taylor James is an award-winning Canadian filmmaker based in Los Angeles. He is a Ryan Murphy Half Initiative Directing Fellow and recipient of the Vimeo + NewFest Best First Time Filmmaker Award. His "delightfully unhinged" short film, ILY, BYE (starring Meg Stalter) screened at over 50 festivals worldwide and debuted online in tandem as both a Vimeo Staff Pick and a Short of the Week feature.
Prior to finding his calling as a filmmaker, Taylor was a professional dancer and choreographer, performing in films such as The Greatest Showman and with artists including Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, and Beyoncé. His 15-year career instilled an intuitive understanding of movement, pacing, and collaboration- sensibilities that now inform how he blocks actors, choreographs the camera, and builds momentum within his storytelling.
Taylor’s work spans narrative, unscripted, music video, fashion, and branded content. His diverse directing credits include Celebrity Substitute for Amazon (executive produced by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul) music videos for artists like MUNA and Jason Mraz and campaigns for clients like Netflix, Jimmy Choo, Naturium, and QUAY.
