Wanda Nolan is a writer, story consultant, and filmmaker based in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Her National Film Board of Canada documentary The Muse won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Short Documentary (2016), plus has won Best Canadian Short Documentary and Audience Choice Award for Best Short Documentary at Lunenburg Doc Fest, and Best Atlantic Short Documentary at the Atlantic International Film Festival (AIFF). She is also co-director, with Lian Morrison, on the documentary Sing the World Better (Annette Clarke Ruby Line Productions), which can be found on CBC Gem.
As a story consultant, Nolan’s recent credits include the feature documentaries Sons (NFB) and Luben and Elena (NFB).
In 2016, she made her directorial debut with two short films: the NFB-produced animated film The Mystery of the Secret Room (2016), which was nominated for two Golden Sheaf Awards (Best Emerging Filmmaker and Best Animation) and for the Golden Egg Award at the Reykjavik International Film Festival; and the live-action short Crocuses (2016), produced by LJH Films. Crocuses won Best Short at the Nickel Film Festival and the RBC Michelle Jackson Emerging Filmmaker Award, and was selected for the 2018 Women in Film and Television International (WIFTI) Short Film Showcase, screening in over 40 countries.
In 2014, Nolan was named one of eleven "Writers to Watch" by CBC Canada Writes. She holds a Master of Creative Writing degree from the University of British Columbia.
