Biography

He has lived in Spain, France, Morocco and England and speaks Spanish, French, Galician and English.

He started studying Marketing in Pontevedra before he decided to move to Barcelona to study filmmaking.

He started a rebuilding and recuperation project of abandoned village of Vileia, the place where one of his grandmothers was born. This is the same place where he filmed Fire Will Come (2019).

[press conference for Sirat (2025) at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival] All my films are complicated and ask for a lot of production. You have to keep thinking about how you can produce, how to shoot a film in a fire, in real fires or how you can shoot scenes at a rave party. What was riskiest in this project was the project per se - the actual proposal of the film. You've seen the film - it's a very risky one. We don't respect the laws of genre and other non-written laws of what you can and can't do in cinema. I'm very pleased. I don't know whether people will like or dislike the film, but I'm very pleased with the actual gesture. I think we were very bold, we were very daring, we didn't measure things, we didn't calculate, we just leapt into the abyss. And I'm very proud of us and our attitude.

[Cannes press conference for Sirat (2025)] I think that all human beings are a bit broken, we have a hurt somewhere, we're all wounded children and many of us create an idealized vision of ourselves in order to get rid of this break. I like very much the rave culture, people travelling, and it's a way of showing this broken part of people. In fact, this film enabled me to heal many things. I think it's wonderful to be able to propose a kind of commonplace, very trite person like me or Sergi [Sergi López] who has to cope with his own emptiness, where life really shakes him up and asks him, "Who are you? Who are you? Jump. Jump and cross the minefield." And I think that is the way in which life actually works. It was important therefore to show someone who was looking for his daughter and he has to cope with one of the most horrible things that could ever happen to someone. He has to plunge into himself, into his innermost depths and it shows that when you're pushed to your limits, in fact you find what's best in you.

[Cannes press conference for Sirat (2025)] I think my film is a ceremony, a really cinematographic ceremony. We are inviting the spectator to really develop or stimulate another level of perception. We are really using cinema as an esoteric tool of penetration of the human metabolism. I mean, that's the intention - we'll see if it works in that sense.
