- He loves to travel, and has visited 45 of 50 states (still missing Alaska, Hawaii, Vermont, Oregon, and Idaho.), 7 of the provinces of Canada (including Vancouver where he was a Steadicam 1rst AC on the Cross Country Skiing course of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games. He has also visited the Virgin Islands, France, Ireland, and Northern Ireland. He hopes to do more international traveling in the time to come.
- James loves the outdoors. He attributes this love to many annual summer family vacations, where he and his family camped across much of the USA and Eastern Canada, and the Boy Scouts monthly backpacking, hiking, and climbing trips.
- His favorite place in the world to hike is the Auxier Ridge Trail of the Red River Gorge. He has been backpacking, technical rock climbing, and camping in the Red River Gorge since he was a young boy.
