Biography

Carissa Dorson is a Los Angeles-based director of photography, originally from Silver Spring, Maryland. She is known for her ability to capture stories imbued with vulnerability and human connection. Her most recent feature, Things Will Be Different, a sci-fi drama, had its world premiere at SXSW 2024 and released in theaters and digitally on October 4, 2024. In addition, she lensed the documentary Outstanding: A Comedy Revolution, which premiered at Tribeca and launched on Netflix in June 2024. Dorson began her career in LA’s comedy scene, gaining recognition for filming sketch comedy, which paved the way to narrative projects led by comedians, including the feature It's a Party (Showtime) and the short I Think She Likes You (Tribeca Film Festival). Her TV credits include A Little Late with Lilly Singh (NBC) and The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula (AMC+). She has also contributed as a camera operator on acclaimed series like Hacks (HBO), Better Things (FX), and The Comeback (HBO). Throughout her diverse body of work, Dorson remains dedicated to amplifying unique voices and telling underrepresented stories. Beyond cinematography, she is an accomplished fine art photographer, specializing in portraiture. Her photography book, Conversations with Dad, was published by Kehrer Verlag in 2021. She is based in Los Angeles and is represented by Independent Artist Group (IAG) and EBComs PR for publicity.
