Biography

Marjorie Lewit is an American director, actor, playwright and screenwriter. Formerly the Creative Director of Defiance Theatre Company in North Hollywood, she earned a NoHo Fringe Award for 2017's F*ck Fiction and was nominated for 3 Valley Theatre Awards. She has collaborated with Dante Russo and Daniel Zaitchik on several projects, as well as the award winning Transcendence Theatre Company. Her focus ranges from short and feature length films to music videos and documentaries as well as theatre.

Marjorie graduated from Pace University with a BFA in Theatre in NYC. In 2005, she met Steven Tanenbaum and participated in Project 30 where she wrote, acted and directed. She later wrote for two one-act plays called The Mixed Tape Project. Soon after collaborating with Tanenbaum she was asked to assist him on his feature film Last Call. This was her first introduction to being behind the scenes on a set, not just in front of camera, and to the world of editing. Tanenbaum was a passionate director and mentor and Kiersten Harter presented not only a patient and skillful editor, but a great prelude to women in film.

Marjorie continued making NY theatre with Ruis Woertendyke, John Scoullar, Joseph Kavanagh, State of Play Productions, Brian Bartels and DeLisa White. While auditioning for theatre and film and still pursuing an acting career, she edited on several projects - both proving only helpful in furthering her directing skills. She played 18 different characters in the web series Wiener & Wiener while simultaneously editing all 20 episodes. After working on The Pox Show and with Ghostwood Development Project on two shorts, she decided to move west.

In 2012, Marjorie moved to Los Angeles where she continued her acting career and immediately booked a music video with Elliott Sellers and a feature film with Dreamer Pictures called Silent Life. She met and collaborated with several artists and eventually came to meet Paul Storiale where she was asked to join Defiance Theatre Company. She directed the world Premieres of Group: PTSD Stories, A Completely Unauthorized David Lynch Christmas Carol and F*ck Fiction with Keith Blaney as well as several one-acts.

In 2016 Marjorie directed the Proof of Concept Stronger Than Pretty which was submitted to several online award competitions and was recognized for Trailer of the Month by TMFF. It was eventually shown in a small theatre at the Indie Film Lounge in Park City where it continued to campaign and raise money for its feature film follow-up. In 2017, as part of raising money and attention for the feature Stronger Than Pretty, Marjorie directed the short documentary Inner Warrior which meets several diverse and inspiring men and women and their stories of survival. Marjorie parted from the production, but Donna: Stronger Than Pretty eventually made its feature film debut in 2019.

Marjorie moved back to NYC in the Spring of 2019 and continues to produce theatre and film.
