Uma Shankar Nair

Having been a part of the film industry for over twenty years now, I go by the name Umashankar Nair. I am professionally trained in contemporary, ballet, jazz, hip-hop, Latin American, and Indian dance forms. My first hit came with the song 'Uff Teri Adaa' from the film Kartik Calling Kartik, which topped the charts that year. I bagged the biggest blockbuster hit of 2014 - 'Baby Doll', which has already crossed over 197 million views on YouTube and is still counting. My previous work includes choreographing, directing, and producing songs in films like Rockstar, ABCD, Zubaan, Pagglait, Hunterrr, Oye Lucky Lucky Oye, Kartik Calling Kartik, Quick Gun Murugan, Ghanchakkar, Shaitan, Satyagrah, Chakravyuh, and Shanghai, to name a few. I have had the opportunity of featuring as a judge, creative consultant, and supervising choreographer on several dance reality shows like Dance India Dance Season 5, India's Dancing Superstars, Footloose (Channel V), Dance Premier League, and Jhalak Dikhla Ja. I have choreographed and directed various top-of-the-line commercials, stage productions, musicals, corporate launches, and live events as well. I have directed a short film won award.

. Baaje - Written, produced, and directed Baaje, a short film that won Best Film for 2019 at the LA Film Festival and JIFF, among others. Baaje was specially screened at the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2019. . Won the Dadasahed Phalke Chitranagari Award for Best Debut Film Director at MIFF 2020.
