Biography

Marina Tarkovskaya was born on September 3, 1934 in the USSR. She was a writer, known for Andrei Tarkovsky's Taiga Summer (1994), Boy with a Movie Camera and The Dream in the Mirror (2021). She was married to Aleksandr Gordon. She died on June 11, 2024 in Russia.

Mother of writer, poet, biologist, trapper, and cinematographer Mikhail Tarkovsky (son), and child actress Ekaterina Tarkovskaya [Katya] (daughter), both with husband Gordon.

She is a writer and linguist, taking after her father Arseniy Tarkovskiy who was a well-known poet and translator.

She is the younger sister of filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky. She met her husband Aleksandr Gordon while he was a student at VGIK film school, a classmate of her brother, with whom Gordon collaborated on several student films. Gordon became a well-known director in his own right, and later an author.
