  • Mattia Palombi is an Italian Cinematographer born in Rome. At the age of nineteen he moved to New York to pursue a career in filmmaking. In 2010, he majored in Cinematography at the New York Film Academy and completed several Cinematography Master Classes at the Maine Media Workshop, where he collaborated with Kees Van Oostrom, President of the American Society of Cinematography, Francis Kenny, ASC and Rexford Metz, ASC. Since 2012 he has been working as a Cinematographer.

    His first short-film "The Pilgrim and the Private Eye", directed by Joel Johnstone, won best short at the Harlem International Film Festival and at the Long Island Film Festival 2012. His first full-length feature "The Second Sun", directed by Jennifer Gelfer, received a nomination at the Camerimage 2018 for Best Cinematography Debut. In 2021 Mattia was awarded his first Emmy Award for the TV promo "We Are New York's Very Own" produced by Tribune Media and Pix 11. Mattia's directorial debut with the short-documentary "Murmuration" was awarded by Vimeo Staff Pick 2021 as one of the best videos on the internet.

    Most recent projects include "Telemarketers" the most-watched documentary series on HBO 2023, produced by the Safdie brothers, "Memory Room" winner of the Grand Prize for Best Film at the New York Shorts Intl Film Festival 2025, and the documentary "The Octopus Murders" winner of the Emmy Award 2025 for Outstanding Investigative Documentary, distributed by Netflix.

    Mattia shot features, documentaries and commercials across five continents, filming award winning campaigns for UBI (International Buddhist Union), UNICEF, CUAMM (Doctors with Africa) and CBS Sports. He is an active member of the AIC (Italian Society of Cinematographers) and IMAGO (European Federation of Cinematographers). He currently resides in Brooklyn, New York.
