Francesco Carignani

Francesco Carignani di Novoli is an Italian director born in Naples. He is the Chief of the FAI (the Italian National Trust) Delegation in Naples and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. In 2006, he graduated with a thesis on the renowned English documentary filmmaker Humphrey Jennings. The following year, he was assistant professor of Documentary Cinematography to Italian director Carlo Alberto Pinelli. He also had a Ph.D. with a particular focus on cultural valorization and museums. In Naples he had the opportunity to study screen-writing under several directors, among them, the future Oscar winner, the Italian director Paolo Sorrentino. After working in Milan and Rome as an assistant on numerous sets, in 2009 he attended the University of Southern California, School of Cinematic Arts, in Los Angeles, where he also worked in the film industry. He earned a PhD in Management with a focus on cultural heritage management and storytelling. Over the years, he has specialized in directing and producing independent documentaries and podcasts, focusing on themes related to culture and cultural heritage.
