- Derek Shulman was born on February 11, 1947 in Glasgow, Scotland, UK.
- Was a a member of the progressive rock band Gentle Giant from 1970 to 1980. Brother of fellow band members Ray Shulman and Phil Shulman (who departed Gentle Giant in 1973). All three brothers were also members of 60s' r&b pop band Simon Dupree and The Big Sound.
- They also have a musician sister Eve King, who is the mother of naturalist Simon King.
- Co-founder of DRT Entertainment / Brass TGacks Records, which was active from 2003-2009.
