Biography

  • John Rushing is a Los Angeles-based actor, producer, and coach with a diverse career spanning television, film, and theater. A proud member of SAG-AFTRA and Actors' Equity, John trained in Meisner's technique while studying theater in Chicago and further honed his craft with the renowned SITI Company.

A sixth-generation Texan, John grew up in Corsicana, Texas-a farm town near Dallas-where he spent his days fishing, riding, and performing in local theater. He went on to earn a BA from Calvin College, an MPhil from Oxford, and a JD from the University of Texas School of Law.

John has shared his expertise as a master-level acting coach at both the Margie Haber Studio and Zack Barnett Studio (ZBS). His coaching played a pivotal role in Max Donnovan's breakout performance on the Netflix comedy That '90s Show.

Beyond acting, John has worked extensively behind the scenes, developing television and film projects. His producing credits include VR360 production in Antarctica, on-set coaching for two feature films, and directing an award-winning short film.

John also serves on the Board of IAMA Theatre Company, a highly regarded Los Angeles theater company recognized by Playbill as one of the "40 Regional Theaters You Must Know."

On-screen, John is best known for his recurring role as Mortonson on The Young and the Restless.

When he's not acting or practicing law at Rushing McCarl LLP-where he was named a Super Lawyer for 2025-John is likely found on the water. A passionate sailor, he has rounded Cape Horn, competed for the US 11 Meter Team in the Scandinavian Nationals, and crewed the 2015 Transpac.
