Hot Chelle Rae is a pop rock band formed in Nashville, Tennessee, in 2005. HCR began with a meeting between singer-songwriter Ryan Follese and guitarist Nash Overstreet. The band began unsigned with the name Miracle Drug. The band was later named Hot Chelle Rae, after a MySpace stalker who provided the band with a rather entertaining era of online activity until her false identity was discovered and brought to light. In the summer of 2007, the band opened a sold out concert for rapper Lil Jon. Later on that year, they played a string of venues at South by Southwest, a music festival in Austin, Texas, and then went on tour with the band Vedera. They were signed to Jive Records in October 2008, and then began work on their first album, Lovesick Electric.

Hot Chelle Rae released the first single 'Tonight, Tonight' from their 'Whatever' album, which peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 in July 2011. Their second single, "I Like It Like That", premiered on September 13, 2011. Their 'Whatever' album was announced on the band's website on October 4, 2011 and was released on November 29, 2011. In March 2012 the band joined with Taylor Swift to perform at her Australia and New Zealand shows of her 'Speak Now' Tour. In the summer of 2012, the band will be on tour with Demi Lovato.

When Ryan and Nash met they almost didn't start the band because they're polar opposites but looked past their differences to form "Miracle Drug" that would later be "Hot Chelle Rae".
Hot Chelle Rae's first official single, "Tonight Tonight," peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 list.
Ian Keaggy, the bassist, moved to Ireland for six months before having a 'feeling' he should come back to Nashville. Hot Chelle Rae started right after.
The band was originally known as an unsigned group called Miracle Drug. They named themselves Hot Chelle Rae after they were stalked on MySpace by a user who referred to herself as Chelle Rae. She disappeared after they called her out on her false identity, but then they took the name.
