Biography

Dick Smith was born on March 18, 1944 in Roseville, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. He is a producer and director, known for First Contact (1982), The UFO Movie They Don't Want You to See (2023) and Australia (1987). He has been married to Pip Smith since March 1969. They have two children.

Patron of the Australian Geographic Society, which he founded.

In 1968, he founded the electronics retailer Dick Smith Electronics, establishing the first store in the Sydney, New South Wales suburb of Artamon. He sold the business to Woolworths Limited in the early 1980's.

Winner of the 1986 Australian of the Year award.

He was the first person to reach the North Pole by a solo helicopter flight (which he achieved in 1987).

They say that renewables, they say that wind and solar with storage, is cheaper than coal. Now, it's not true - and because of that lie, and it's a lie, we're going to delay moving to something that we have to move to which is nuclear because you need a baseload power.

This claim by the CSIRO that you can run a whole country on solar and wind is simply a lie. It is not true, they are telling lies. No country has ever been able to run entirely on renewables, that's impossible, and so we should be making a decision to go nuclear now.
